Five proof of funds mistakes that get Nigerians refused
1. Large deposits without an explanation
A sudden lump sum is one of the most common refusal reasons. If money was gifted or transferred, the source must be documented.
2. Missing the holding period
Several countries require funds to sit for a set number of days. One day short can mean a refusal.
3. Sponsor documents that do not match
Names, amounts and dates on the sponsor letter must agree exactly with the bank statement.
4. Forgetting dependants
Every dependant adds to the required amount. Families often calculate for one person only.
5. Unofficial statements
Embassies expect stamped statements and bank letters. Screenshots and unsigned printouts are rarely accepted.
